      經絡學說是中醫的一大發明，也是中醫理論的重要組成部分。風靡世界的針灸療法就是基于經絡理論產生的，草藥的使用也要受經絡學說的指導。

      經脈系統包括與臟腑相對應的的十二條正經、不隸屬于臟腑的奇經八脈，以及附屬于十二條正經的經別、經筋、皮部。絡脈是經脈的分支部分，主要起到聯系不同經脈的作用。

      正常情況下，經絡系統起著運行氣血、協調全身陰陽的作用。同時它“內溉臟腑，外濡腠理”，即濡養體內臟腑和體表的五官九竅、皮肉筋骨，像互相通聯著的一張網，息息相通，保持著機體相對的平衡與協調一致。因此，無論是身體哪里出了問題，都可以通過經絡來進行調養。

      The meridian and collateral theory is a great finding of TCM and is also an important component of TCM theory. The world famous acupuncture moxibustion therapy is developed based on this theory. The use of herbs is also guided by it.

      The meridian system includes twelve main meridians corresponding to the viscera, extra meridians and eight collaterals not subordinate to the viscera and channel divergence, channel sinew and skin region subordinate to the twelve main meridians. As branches of meridians, collaterals mainly play the role of connecting different meridians. 

      In normal circumstances, the system of meridians and collaterals transport qi and blood and balance yin and yang of the whole body. At the same time, it “supplies the inner viscera with water and keeps the outer interstices moist”. Moistening and nourishing the inner viscera and outer five sense organs, nine orifices, skin, flesh, muscles and bones, the system, interconnected tightly like a net, maintains the relative balance and coordination of the body. Therefore, any problems of the body can be nursed and treated through the meridian and collateral system.
